At St Patrick’s we seek opportunities for our community to actively express our deep commitment to Gospel values such as human dignity, compassion, responsibility and service to others.
MAG Group
The school community at St Patrick’s is inspired by our Mercy heritage and is immersed in the Mercy charism. In 2011 our Year 6 children visited Monte Saint Angelo College in North Sydney and following this excursion the students were inspired to start their own aspect of mission and begin a Mercy action group at St Patrick’s.
The purpose of this group is to be informed and take action on issues of social justice and to demonstrate compassion and empathy for those who suffer injustice.
The St Patrick’s Mercy Action Group aims to raise an awareness of social justice within our community.
Our Mercy Action Group represents our St Patrick’s Catholic Community’s attempt to carry out real works of social justice and charity. This not only makes a real difference to those who directly benefit from the work of the group, it instills core Catholic values and principles in our students for their future.
The Dish
As part of our commitment as a Mercy school and with the help of parents and students at St Patrick’s, we are part of the DISH Program. As part of this program we, along with other Catholic schools, join a roster to feed a group of homeless people in Hornsby. This program requires us to prepare, cook and distribute food to those in need in our local area on our rostered night once a term.
St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Appeal
Each year St Patrick’s school community aids the wonderful work performed by the St Vincent de Paul Society by donating Christmas gifts for needy families. The school is inundated with gifts which are then packed into hampers and delivered to those in need.
Fundraising for Candela Peru
Each year a fundraiser is held for the women in the shanty-town of Candela, Peru, through the sales of their Peruvian handicrafts. The Sisters of Mercy in Peru have been able to provide a nutrition programme for the pre-school children in Candela and a medical centre has been built to provide much needed assistance for the families of the town.
